Post by: Alan Howe on Friday 16 November 2012, 17:28
How about this from Guild?>
http://www.guildmusic.com/shop/wbc.php?sid=145977f82508&tpl=produktdetail.html&pid=14828&rid=261&recno=3# (http://www.guildmusic.com/shop/wbc.php?sid=145977f82508&tpl=produktdetail.html&pid=14828&rid=261&recno=3#)
...now that's really obscure stuff! And big too (approx 48 minutes)!

Oh, very interesting indeed. Definitely one to write to Santa about.

Interesting excepts...I particularly liked the hymn tune 2nd movement.  The 1st mvnt excerpt left me humming the Wanderer Fantasy, for some reason :).

More for Santa!

I've gone off the piece - it is awfully loooong...

I quite like Nixon's material, it is memorable and appropriate to the medium, but it's also repeated ad nauseam because, as Alan says, each movement is spun out to a laughable degree. There's a good 25 minute Trio there, being smothered by Nixon's 47 minute behemoth.

I agree. Doesn't know when to stop. A pity, because the material is pretty good - just over-used. Generally, I'm not in favour of cuts, but here they would have been beneficial.
