Title: Alfred Bruneau Requiem
Post by: giles.enders on Monday 28 October 2013, 10:16
The Requiem by Alfred Bruneau 1857-1934 will be performed with choir and orchestra on Saturday 2nd November 6 pm. at St.Mary Magdalene Church in Paddington, London  This is a very rare performance.  It was first conducted by Stanford in 1896 to great critical acclaim and not performed again in the UK until 1986.
Bruneau was a pupil of Massenet.

There is or was a recording of some of his orchestral works/incidental music on Marco Polo, I think. Anyhow, seems worth looking forward to, yes - will it be broadcast?

Bruneau's Requiem is ( or was) available on a double CD set coupled with the Saint-Saens Requiem and several French sacred arias on RCA Red Seal: Artistes Repertoire.

His oratorio: Lazare was on LP.

I've also got several of his operas from French radio broadcasts.

Contact me if you want copies.

I can't make it, I'm afraid. A pity - it's a grand work.

Sadly, it wont be broadcast.  Each year this church resurrects a rare French requiem and their standard is consistently high and it is always full.  Shame it is one of the ugliest churches anywhere.
