Title: Saint-Saëns' Les Barbares
Post by: BerlinExpat on Monday 10 February 2014, 21:31
After Massenet's Le Mage from St. Etienne we can now look forward to another operatic rarity thanks to the support of the Palazzetto Bru Zane. Camille Saint-Saëns' opera Les Barbares is being retrieved from the archives. It's a tragédie lyrique in 3 acts and a prologue to a libretto by Victorien Sardou and Pierre-Barthélémy Gheusi. Concert performances are being given this coming Friday (14th) and Sunday (16th) in the Grand Théâtre Massenet in St. Etienne. A CD production is envisaged but I can't find advance notice of a possible radio transmission, so I guess we'll just have to wait for the Ediciones Singulares product to hear it.

Thanks for this exciting news, Colin. We really are in the debt of the St Etienne people.
