Title: August de Boeck
Post by: thalbergmad on Sunday 23 May 2010, 21:27
I listen to very few violin concertos, but this one has captured my interest. My lack of knowledge of this genre does not permit me to make a comparison to other VC's, but it sounds like a master at work to me.

Recorded along with his Symphony and Dahomeyan Rhapsody which i have not yet listened to. Perhaps one of our favourite labels might consider the Piano Concerto.

Yes, the VC is a very nice piece indeed - although I'm not sure it has the distinctiveness to qualify as a great work. Nevertheless, it's the sort of thing that Hyperion ought to be considering for their RVC series - although, quite honestly, the performance on Marco Polo is really rather fine. A lovely listen indeed - and highly recommended to lovers of the late-Romantic violin repertoire.
