Title: Bejamin Godard Piano Music
Post by: Mark Thomas on Thursday 21 August 2014, 08:54
Godard seems to be enjoying a modest revival on disc at present, the latest manifestation of which is this new CD (http://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/art/piano-works-barcarolles-scenes-italiennes/hnum/5698877) from Piano Classics, of two Barcarolles, three Scènes italiennes and twenty other Pieces for Piano Op.58. The pianist is Alessandro Deljavan. I'm particularly looking forward to the 4 minutes 23 seconds of "Dig, ding, don!".

Yes, looking forward to this one. I recently played his Mazurka op103-4 and it went down a storm. Apparently I have to learn some more Godard now.

Godard's solo piano music is very beautiful; far above "salon music" and pre-figures Faure harmonically. Philip Martin recorded a cd , too, on Marco Polo:)

Laurent Martin, not Phillip Martin.
