Who doesn't love Röntgen's chamber music? The audio excerpts sound mouthwatering... https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/art/kammermusik-vol-1/hnum/5385392 (https://www.jpc.de/jpcng/classic/detail/-/art/kammermusik-vol-1/hnum/5385392)
It's a super recording - especially the Op.40 Sonata.
Also available on Spotify, incidentally.
I'm More excited by the fast that it's labeled Chamber Music VOL. 1 which mean's we can expect all the lovely cello sonatas and the complete chamber output by this neglected giant!
Somehow I doubt it will be complete - merely multiple volumes of selected chamber works. With Rontgen's 158 chamber pieces, we'd probably be looking at 39-59 CDs to cover it all. Of course, I would rush to buy such a set, but alas, I suspect it is improbable. And, we do have 9 of his 14 cello sonatas available on CD - and they are all great!
I guess you are right. Had it been a Naxos or Marco Polo project, I'd be tempted to believe that this would definitely have be a complete series indeed!
How did you find it on Spotify?? Thanks
Jerry
