Title: Eduardo Mata Symphony No.2 in C "Romántica"
Post by: Alan Howe on Saturday 14 February 2015, 17:20
...was written in 1963 as a student exercise: a CD was advertised this month at Records International (although it's no longer in their catalogue - so perhaps they're now sold out). It's basically a pastiche of Brahms, but it's actually a hugely enjoyable, melodious and memorable work in its own right.

Has anyone else heard it?

I just recently got a copy and endorse all that Alan says. It's not Brahms, of course, but you'd be hard pressed to know it sometimes, so convincing is the imitation. Its vigour, pace and robust tunefulness make it a very enjoyable listen. Thoroughly recommended if you can lay your hands on a copy.

It may be worth contacting Jeff Joneikis at Records International to find out how to get a copy:
