Title: Dohnányi's opera The Tower of the Voivod

...or A vajda tornya - sounds rather Gurrelieder-like to me (try the ending!):

Dohnanyi wrote several masterworks (such as the 2nd Symphony), but I'm still on the fence about this one. I desperately need an english libretto to go with my piano score.

Well, the YouTube video (of the whole opera) gives you the chance to get off the fence - in either direction!

I have a video performance on dvd. Right now I can't find the youtube performance to see if it's the same one. I haven't given up on the opera yet.

The Tower is a fine opera. Dohnanyi's comic masterpiece is The Tenor which is full of good tunes. I have a recording from a radio broadcast but would like to see it done commercially. His only other opera Tante Simone is available on CD.
