Title: Unsure why MDT is only announcing this disc now (Centaur, Schmidt Clarinet Qnt)
Post by: eschiss1 on Tuesday 28 August 2018, 12:47
...as it does seem to have been released in 2016... a recording (of the original version- not sure??) of Franz Schmidt's A major clarinet on Centaur Records, see MDT (https://www.mdt.co.uk/schmidt-quintet-in-a-major-piano-left-hand-ayer-centaur.html). (Maybe available in the US since 2016, see eg Amazon (https://www.amazon.com/Schmidt-Quintet-Major-Piano-Left/dp/B01CTRVRMQ) and available in the UK now. Not sure. Anyhow.)

I adore this piece from its magical opening through to the finale-variations and wouldn't agree that a half-dozen recordings is over-recording (and only a few of them are of the original version with piano left-hand anyway.) Apologies if it's not appropriate mention for this subforum, though...

I agree, Eric. It's a marvellous piece. I have the Linos Ensemble on CPO. It would seem that this Centaur disk is only just being released in the UK. I see it was actually recorded back in 2014!
