Title: Mercadante's Il Bravo
Post by: Shira on Sunday 14 October 2018, 19:06
https://www.rte.ie/culture/2018/0920/995001-rte-culture-to-livestream-wexford-opera-production-of-il-bravo/

One of Saverio Mercadante's masterpieces, Il bravo (The Assassin). As far as I know, it has only been performed twice in the 20 century, both of which have been recorded.

Might there be a chance that someone can record this broadcasting?

Thanks in advance, :-*

I won't be able to record it live, but I see that it will also be available via RTE's catch up service.

Well, these Wexford productions may end up in CD or DVD form one day anyway...
I remember having had an LP recording from Italy, which I liked.

I've added a recording of RTE's catch-up web broadcast of Il Bravo to our Downloads Board here (http://www.unsungcomposers.com/forum/index.php/topic,7025.0.html). It's a terrific opera, one of Mercadante's best IMHO, and it received a very persuasive performance in Wexford, despite the limitations of some of the cast (here's a very fair review (https://bachtrack.com/review-mercadante-bravo-doucet-pelizzari-bakanova-wexford-festival-opera-october-2018)).

Mille mille grazie!!   :D

I watched the broadcast live on RTE and am looking forward to the CD.
It was a wonderful performance, much better than Martina Franca 1990.
