Post by: izdawiz on Wednesday 27 November 2019, 22:27
Hi folks, Just came across Kor Kuiler,  an unsung Dutch composer. I see we have his Piano Sonata in Dminor on our download section. It may perhaps the same one as this one on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4ah8cJA5SU8. It's Gorgeous music! But unable to find more on CD or elsewhere :( . Just wanted to bring attention to this composer that is all. :)

I have original scores of both this and the violin sonata, as well as some other piano works. I must have tried them out when I acquired them some years ago, but I will now certainly look more closely at what appears to be a composer of certain quality. Perhaps Martin Anderson, or those at Hyperion may be interested, as I'm pretty sure nothing has ever been commited to disc as yet - certainly not commercially anyway.

There is a piano concerto, I believe, but whether it is still extant or not I have no idea. Do we know if Kuiler's mss are in the Nederlands Musikinstituut? Certainly on the evidence of this piano sonata his music is highly attractive.

A link which doesn't work, alas. Never mind! I have managed to access the archive by going to the main site. They do not seem to have the piano concerto, however.
