Title: Benjamin Godard : Suite de trois morceaux for flute and small orchestra Op. 116
Post by: dhibbard on Tuesday 05 May 2020, 18:54
Such a sweet and light piece of music to enjoy from Godard.   The French composer has been discussed here previously, but not this "flute concerto" .    Enjoyable!

I was absolutely sure it had been but I cannot find the thread now- odd! (I agree I'm not as competent as I am I think.) Google, Google Books and IMSLP turn up a small amount of interesting material about it.

to flute players and their audiences, these pieces are far from 'unsung' and frequently performed. They have been included in the Exam syllabus (grade 6 & 7) for many years.

But to us non-flautists, they're completely unknown. How ignorant we are!

I've had recordings of both the orchestral and piano versions for quite a number of years now. Indeed some nice stuff, but I'm a sucker for late romantic character pieces after all.
