The pianist, Camiel Boomsma, writes:
"Discovering the music of Dutch composer Gerhard (and his son Karel) Hamm was really a game of fate. After a concert, Carl Hamm, who is a direct descendant, gave me a stack of scores. Playing through the pieces at home, I was struck by their delicacy and narrative power. Gerhard Hamm is in some ways part of Robert Schumann's musical family. He writes small poetic reflections on the great gestures of Romanticism. There is a whole world hidden in these little musical poems. Sometimes powerful and proud, sometimes vulnerable and reflective. A beautiful romantic expression in itself. In his 'Gefunden: 6 Clavierstücke in Liedform opus 18' Gerhard Hamm's musical talent as a composer is wonderfully displayed. Hamm's craftsmanship is superb, but he never neglects poetic expression."
