Title: Joseph Kalichstein (1946-2022)
Post by: eschiss1 on Friday 01 April 2022, 04:50
Joseph Kalichstein (1946-2022) died today the 31st. Admittedly not much known for performing Romantic obscure repertoire (though I have a recording by his trio of Kirchner's arrangements of Brahms' string sextets, and I would guess that some of the Romantic works they performed and recorded were still fairly underknown at the time they started playing them), the trio he, Laredo and Robinson formed was adventurous all the same.

He did record the Arensky with KLR trio, which is good enough for me.

Just wanted to put a plug in here for the Big KLR Trio Box (https://www.amazon.com/Big-KLR-Trio-Various-artists/dp/B07S5RNH1X) that can be obtained in mp3 format from Amazon for the paltry sum of 99 cents.  Of interest to users of this site is the inclusion of the Arensky Trio and the two Brahms String Sextets arranged for piano trio by Theodor Kirchner.
