Not sure if this has been mentioned, but Hyperion is issuing a new recording of Charles Stanford's Requiem expected 5 May (https://www.prestomusic.com/classical/products/9459215--stanford-requiem), conducted by Martyn Brabbins.

Thanks, Eric, that's a must buy for me.

If this isn't to be my 'Choral Recording of the Year' I'll eat my sunhat!

From the barely whispered opening to the great climaxes, this has the whiff of a recording that just had to be made rather than any sense of a dutiful run-through.

Is this Stanford's masterpiece? A pointless question, maybe. But there are times in this glorious work when one wonders whether any other of the composer's many compositions reveals the man's soul quite as deeply as this one does - or as frequently.

Let's all hope that Hyperion will be permitted to plan and release many more such riches in the years to come...
