Title: Hummel String Quartets
Post by: Kroostrum on Wednesday 08 March 2023, 22:11
This has slipped under my radar but there's another recording (besides Delmé Quartet on Hyperion) of Hummel's string quartets:

I hope someone finds this interesting as I did  ;D

It's on an extremely obcure label (Pavian [not Pavane]) and isn't listed at Amazon UK or Presto.

Having sampled this and the Hyperion performances, I rather prefer the latter (less aggressively HIP). Thanks for the reminder about these lovely works, though. I didn't know them at all!

Welcome, by the way, to UC. Good to hear from you - all the way from Brazil, I believe!

The performing quartet here, named after a 20th-century Slovak composer some of whose works have been recorded on Marco Polo, has also made good recordings of Franz Schmidt's quartets and others (on the Opus label, as I recall) (I think I also have their recording of Janacek's quartets, and I gather they've also recorded Smetana's).
