Already mentioned this in another thread, but the Berks Sinfonietta in Reading, Pennsylvania will have a digital concert performing Raff's Sinfonietta on November 21.

Justin: how urgently would you need a Latvian translation (if still necessary)? I can ask someone who could translate it, but it might take some time.

If you could do that, Tpaloj, I would greatly appreciate it! And no, it isn't urgent at all. Please take as much time as needed.

Here's a quickly dashed-off translation:

Thank you very much, Alan! I have seen scores where the German is an abridged version of the libretto in its original language (Dalcroze's "La Veillée"), so I am curious to see if that is the same case here. From face value, this is a very Romantic text fitting right in with the era.

I am curious as to whether any of our current members are proficient in Latvian, as I would like to understand the meaning of the libretto from Vītols' cantata.

Linked below is the score/libretto:

Thank you.

Human pronunciation here: https://en.m.wiktionary.org/wiki/File:Nl-röntgen.ogg

Seems it is pronounced like "Runtrun"

And most masters made today are digital, so new LP releases are not even analog.

LPs replicate the original sound wave, while CDs can't. So while LPs are fully reproducing the sound that you would have heard in the studio/hall, the pops and crackles detract from any of those advantages. And CDs/digital downloads are becoming more advanced all the time, so you can't really notice.

I have only LPs and downloads, not CDs. The ambient noise on vinyl as well as the analog quality is appealing.

From what I have found, all 14 of Carelli's funeral marches are performed exclusively in Bitonto, Italy, where this recording was made and where Carelli lived.

But hey! The 14th march got a standing ovation back in January of this year in Bitonto: https://youtu.be/fGcYhzIsGPs

As a side note, Carelli wrote his own adaption of "Ave Maria," performed in 2011 in Bitonto: https://youtu.be/OIPAl2IDRMU

I'm sure everyone who attended got a good night's sleep that evening!  ;D

Recordings & Broadcasts / Horst Platen - Violin Concerto
Wednesday 09 September 2020, 17:10
Just uploaded a recording of Horst Platen's lovely violin concerto conducted by Platen himself.

Do any of the members have info on when this was composed? It is certainly in the romantic style, but I am having trouble pinpointing any particular decade.

Is anyone familiar of this live performance of it by a Japanese Orchestra? https://youtu.be/Jl6GdVS6bkM)

It isn't terrible, but the ensemble doesn't sound all together. For example, bad notes made by the brass at 18:50. Technically sounds like each musician recorded their part alone in a studio and then someone put them all together.

Was anyone able to record this performance back in March? Would love to hear it and compare it to the Chandos recording.

Who cares about cover anyway?

It just gives us something to complain about.  ;D

More unfortunately, I can recall both the author (Jessie Fothergill) and the title "The First Violin: A Novel" 1896

Small correction. It was published in 1877, which would make a bit more sense given that Lenore was composed in the early 1870s.
