Is this a Deutsche Grammophon release? How many CDs are in the set?

Hi Alan,
Is this a CD? If so, details please. Sounds fascinating.

Thanks Alan,
I'll try plowing through Amazon.jp as well.. They have a superb classical recording industry over there and I can't figure out why they are reluctant to share it with the rest of the world.

Hi Alan,
Over the years I have been aware  of the high-quality classical recordings issued solely for the Japanese home market. In fact, many have found their way (with great difficulty) into my various discographies. I'm curious to know how you go about searching for these elusive Japanese CDs?

Many thanks,

Mike

Although Cowen does not rank as high as a symphonist as his contemporaries Parry and Stanford, it is important to have all his extant symphonies recorded as he was a major light in his own time. More important to me in the forthcoming EMF schedule is the world premiere of Delius' Petite Suite No. 2. Delius has been sadly neglected in recent years, so it is heartening to see a "new" work of his emerge from the shadows. Thanks as always to Em Marshall-Luck for her continual championship of the byways of the English Musical Renaissance. By the way, a previous EMF  offered the modern premiere of Robin Milford's Symphony (No. 2). Does anyone out there know if a recording of this work is in the offing?

Disappointing replies to my post. Apparently,  these two labels maintain a well-guarded wall of secrecy, unlike their counterparts at Hyperion and CPO.

It has been quite awhile since Dutton Epoch and Lyrita have issued new releases. I begin to wonder if these two important labels are defunct or on the way to extinction? Their websites offer no clues that I can see. So, if anyone out there can offer up to date information about these labels (hopefully) future plans, please share it with the rest of us.

Recordings & Broadcasts / Re: Nepomuceno Symphony in G minor

Thanks for this good news. Now there are 3 listings of this charming symphony in my discography. Hopefully, other romantic symphonies from the vast reaches of Latin America will be unearthed and recorded in the near future.

Recordings & Broadcasts / Dutton Epoch

It has been quite awhile since there have been new releases from Dutton Epoch and its sub-labels. Does anyone out there have any knowledge of what is going on with this valuable label? Its own website does not offer any clues.

I regret that my discography  listing of CPO CDs of Symphonies by J.N. David that have not as yet appeared has caused some consternation, I saw these recordings (as well as some others) listed in an official CPO catalogue a couple of years ago. I naively assumed that these releases were about to be released  so I added them to my  discographies. Should they languish in CPO's vaults indefinitely, I will remove them from the discographies. CPO is a wonderful label, but it often drives collectors (and discographers!) crazy.

Alan's assessment of this work is perfectly stated. Since first hearing this symphony many years ago, I always counted it as a favorite. It grabs you immediately and never lets go. I've always wondered if its unfortunately misleading title has kept it from the greater fame it surely deserves. Kudos to CPO for giving this superb composer the high quality presentation he absolutely merits.

Dear Aramiarz,
Greatly appreciate the details about the Carrillo CD. Good luck with this and all your future recordings.

All the best,

Michael

Many thanks for this information. May we also know the label and catalogue number?

Great news from Mexico. For my Discography of Symphonies can you tell me the label and catalogue number as well as the names of the two suites that will be on this CD? Many thanks Aramiarz .

Great suggestion Mike. All three works are very attractive and memorable. Do you recall who sent them to you so many years ago? Let's hope a second volume of Weinberger orchestral works will appear in the near future.
