Composers & Music / Re: Alexander Zemlinsky
Wednesday 16 October 2019, 16:20
My flagon is raised in admiration -- and with thanks to this forum. "The Last Prodigy" first alerted me to this extraordinary man; and on eschiss1's recommendation I recently read Antony Beaumont's biography.  Beaumont's efforts to recover some of Zemlinsky's music must be an equally riveting story. Does anyone know whether there is any film footage of Zemlinsky conducting?

This concert will be streamed from Boulder, Colorado, USA on 2015.10.27, 7:30 p.m. Mountain Time USA:
https://livestream.com/cubouldermusic/events/4266193

More details here, if you can be there in person: http://www.colorado.edu/music/events/faculty-tuesdays

The announcement: "Faculty Tuesday: Violinist Chas Wetherbee and friends

"In an evening of firsts, experience the first Boulder performance of Paul Juon's nuanced and melodic 'Violin Sonata No. 2' with piano faculty David Korevaar. New faculty members, violinist Harumi Rhodes and cellist David Requiro – along with Erika Eckert and Paul Erhard – will then join forces to present another Boulder premiere, Max Bruch's incredible 'String Octet.'"

As I savor these riches I shall be thinking of minacciosa and many other eloquent contributors to this forum.

Sincerely, Boulder

Composers & Music / Re: Charles-Wilfrid de Beriot 1833-1914

re: Charles-Wilfrid de Beriot's piano concerto #2, op. 46--
In the published version from the Ricardo Vines collection at the University of Colorado ("IIe concerto pour le piano avec accompagnement d'orchestre ou de 2e piano, " OCLC #50649800), the concerto is in two movements. The first is marked Allegro moderato; the second is marked Intermezzo (with a metronome mark of quarter note = 72), leading to Andante, leading to Allegro.

A pianist on the faculty of the music school happened to be in the library when I was inquiring about the de Beriot score. He is familiar with the library's holdings of music by both Charles-Wilfrid and Charles Auguste de Beriot. If contributors to UC have further questions, please e-mail me, and I will connect you with this generous man.
