Recordings & Broadcasts / Re: Moszkowski PC Op.59
Thursday 21 May 2015, 21:24
Well I was surprised and delighted to find the Moszkowski/Grieg available today for download at Arkiv music:

http://www.arkivmusic.com/classical/album.jsp?album_id=1848089

I must happily report that this rendition of the Moszkowski, to which I've listened twice, goes to the top of my list. Moog's virtuosity is jaw-dropping and seemingly effortless, and the orchestral contribution and recorded sound are first-class.

Be prepared for a wild ride. Moog plays the piece faster than I've ever heard it.   For example, Movement I, marked Moderato, is taken at what I would describe as an Allegro Vivace, but no matter-I love it!

I'll withhold comments on the Grieg. None of us are buying this for the Grieg.

This is a very intriguing upcoming release on Hyperion. Two composers about whom I know nothing, Henrique Oswald and Alfredo Napoleão:

Working my way through listening to the 3 disc set (though "working my way" is a poor description of such a pleasurable experience).  Some familiar pieces, many unfamiliar. All a delight. An insane download bargain at qobuz.com-7.19 Euro for the complete set!

Recordings & Broadcasts / Reiner, CSO

I hope I might be forgiven for mentioning this set of (mostly) "sung" pieces, but I have just downloaded the complete Reiner/CSO RCA recordings-63 discs in CD-quality sound-for €49,39!  What a bargain!

I am really looking forward to the June release on Onyx of the Scharwenka Sonata No. 2 and the Tchaikovsky G major Sonata played by the outstanding Joseph Moog:

I just found this release info for the Scharwenka Concertos on MDT's website:

http://www.mdt.co.uk/scharwenka-complete-piano-concertos-alexander-markovich-neeme-jarvi-chandos-2cds.html

Given that he release date is March 31, I would expect the download to be available circa March 1.

I can barely contain my excitement. I just read an item in the February Gramophone indicating that Chandos has recorded all four Scharwenka Piano Concertos for late April release.   Alexander Markovich (a name unfamiliar to me) is the soloist; Neeme Jarvi conducts the Estonian National SO.
