Thank you all! I truly loved making this recording and rediscovering the music.
Mark - well spotted. My new series (of 4 volumes) will not include any piece from the Marco Polo release - so that it will (at last) allow us to have on recorded almost everything that Marschner wrote for the stage (in terms of purely orchestral selection). I thought it pointless, for now, to re-record overtures already available to the listener. The one I am not too happy about is Lucretia - but I can lie with it.
I am delighted you are enjoying the second Volume! THANK YOU!

QuoteAnyhow, since this is volume 1, I'm very curious about what could be included on a volume 2. Perhaps some works of his later period?
YES! ;)

Thank you so much for liking my new volume in the Auber series! This is a special Volume as it mostly features ballet music! A treat!

Recordings & Broadcasts / JOHANN STRAUSS II's WALDMEISTER
Thursday 19 August 2021, 08:37
Hello all,
I am delighted to announce that my newest recording of Strauss' Waldmeister (World Premiere) will be released on the 10th of September!
Strauss is not exactly unsung - especially in terms of orchestral music - but I consider him unsung in the world of Operetta - since - apart from Fledermaus and Zigeunerbaron and a couple of other titles seldom performed - all of his theatre output is kind of ignored.

I am trying to rectify that!

I hope you will enjoy!

Thank you all! I am particularly proud of Le Divertissement de Versailles as the manuscript I worked from was in very very bad shape and it was a miracle I managed to decipher all the notes and prepare a new edition! ENJOY!

Here is a little promo of the recording:

Volume 4 will come out in the summer

OW! Thank you guys! I am so pleased you are enjoying the CDs. Volume 1 and 2 feature a Chamber Orchestra as Auber at the time was still using that formation. From Volume 3 onwards the sound is Symphonic with a full orchestra sometimes featuring surprises!

I love Konigskinder too - especially when performed in the original "Melodrame" style which Humperdinck adopted for other works as well. I have researched vastly about Humperdinck before the recording (I like to be over-prepared to do the composer justice) and I discovered that I am actually a fan of his music. It is easy listening for sure but so so so full of colours and inner melodies.

I hope more volumes will follow soon! THANK YOU!

Hello! Thank you for the delightful review! :)

Regarding the 2016 CD - I was not involved in it but I know it was discontinued as a series for one problem or the other. I will include hose works as well scattered in future volumes. Auber wrote SOOOOO much music for different productions of the same Opera that a complete Series of all his works will be a really extensive work.

Enjoy!

I am sorry Joachim you do not like my record. I agree about the dryness of the sound (a thing we improved on in Volume 3) - I of course disagree on the rest. I adhered very strictly to Auber's metronome markings - which are very unusual for today's taste and make the music have less depth that one would expect. Anyway I hope I will convince you more in Volume 3. Take care and thanks anyway.

Hello! I cannot find your review of Volume 3. Do you have a link?

What is the question about the 2016 release?

Cheers,
