Amy Elsie Horrocks 1867-1916.  Variations for piano and strings written 1895.  Does anyone know anything about this piece?

not yet, but btw why 1916 (Wikipedia claims "The bird and the rose" was composed in 1917)? MusicSack just has b.1867, Viaf has 1867-1920.

Very often the date music is published is mistaken for when the music was composed.  Having visited the Metropolitan Archives in London, I can confirm she was born in Brazil in 1867, her English parents were out their on business.  They returned to England when Amy was quite young.  She lived for a considerable period at 17 Goldhurst Terrace in London, where she described herself as 'Professor of Music.  Strangely there is no record of her death either in 1916 or 1920.

(no argument there, either - an annoyance on IMSLP where date of publication is "transposed" to date of composition with no reason thought about or at least no reason given, sometimes with a "ca." inserted as, well, a figleaf- as though 175-year-gaps did not regularly insert themselves between composition and publication...) (and I say this as a fan of, editor of, and admin of the site, not intending some sort of harsh existential criticism. Likewise Wikipedia. Anyway. Thank you much!)
