Can anyone telL me why Faure's youthful Symphony in D minor Opus 40 (1884), has not been recorded. Although it was unpublished during Faure's lifetime, surely some company will consider it ? I haven't been able to find much information about it, but possibly it was destroyed or lost ?

It doesn't exist, I'm afraid. Grove online tells us that the MS was destroyed.

Yeah, it was apparently destroyed, however my personal list notes that it was "Reused in Violin Sonata No. 2, Op. 108 and Cello Sonata No. 1, Op. 109".

HOWEVER, I also have noted that Op. 20 is "Suite d'Orchestre (Symphony in F)" which doesn't seem to have been recorded. I wonder what the staus on that one is, as there's no indication it's missing.

And what about his magnum opus "PROMETHEE"... ???

I have a CD with Fauré's Allegro Symphonique. As I understand it, this is the first movement from his Op 20. Unfortunately, my CD:s are in something of a mess right now  :-[, so I haven't been able to check this with the information in the CD booklet. You find the CD here:

The score of this Symphonie / Suite d'orchestre has been published, or should soon be, under the auspices of Palazzetto Bru-Zane:
