Good news.

Unfortunately the role of Paul is to be sung by the (by then) 59 year-old Roberto SaccĂ , so it'll be a wobblefest. He's another tenor who has pushed himself into taking up heavier parts when he should have stuck to the lyric repertoire. The problem is is simple: there just aren't enough suitable tenors to go round for roles like this.

I agree, Alan
SaccĂ  already sung "Der ferne Klang" in Zurich years ago - and I was surprised he would take over such repertoire - after great years of Mozart and Rossini. He was scheduled as Herodes this March, in the La Scala production of "Salome", but this would have been a more "half-speaking" part...
