Thanks, Martin. How interesting. Just off to listen to Rheinberger's fabulous Cello Sonata Op.92 of 1875. Who said the romantic-period cello repertoire was thin?

I was very impressed by Beer-Walbrunn's Cello Sonata. Its combination of humour and genuine depth of feeling  certainly marks it out from any similar work. And could I hear the ghost of Rheinberger in some of its soaring melodies?

Maybe whoever it was didn't know how much Romantic-period cello repertoire there was out there? Hundreds of sonatas (eg), many possibly at least good, for example (probably barely even looked into so who knows ) Anyway...

Well, the cornucopia of sonatas remains stubbornly unfamiliar - and hardly ever played.
