Kenneth Alwyn, best known for his film music recordings (and also Gilbert & Sullivan) , died today. (His recordings also include the first recording of Ben-Haim's 2nd symphony, incidentally, released on Stradivarius in 1988 but apparently recorded 2 decades prior; and his film music recordings include rare film music suites by Sir Arnold Bax among others.)

Thanks, Eric. Goodness! Aged 95 - I had no idea he was that age - but then the years go by increasingly quickly. He was a champion of less well-known 'British' music, and so many of the studio recordings I took from BBC Radio 3 in the 70s were conducted by him.
