Wow! Thank you, Colin. That's really helpful. I intend to spread my wings a bit and explore!  ;D

Just to give some slight flavour of how much more there is-

Fugal Overture(1953), Nocturne for orchestra(1953), Serenade for string orchestra(1958), Sinfonia for string orchestra(1963), Nocturne and Dance for harp and orchestra(1959), Aubade and Scherzo for horn and strings(1965), Overture "Pantomime"(1967), "Fioriture" for orchestra(1968), "Black Bart" for mixed voices and orchestra(1969), Divertimento(1969), Concertino for trumpet, horn and orchestra(1971), "The Tree of Life" for soprano, tenor, chorus, organ and orchestra(1971), Aubade for small orchestra(1972), "The Floore of Heav'n" for orchestra(1973), Ritornelli for trombone, winds and percussion(1974), French Suite(1977), Five Studies for orchestra(1982).........that's seventeen more works and that's only up to the age of 53 and opus 107. Hoddinott lived another 26 years and reached around op.200 ;D ;D

Colin, this is enormously helpful - Hoddinott's recorded catalogue can seem formidably sprawling, but this is an excellent summary: thanks for labouring to compile it!

;D

I don't know if it is currently available in some way.
I have a short orchestral ballet suite "The Railway Children" (five pieces lasting 12' 14") on a mysterious Slovakian double Cd "Classic vision" (DCD 5340).
The performance his credited to "the Cardiff Symphony Orchestra conducted by the Composer".

Discogs.com says this recording featured on a 1990 compilation double LP entitled The Best of Ballet , with movements:
i) At Home, ii) The Journey, iii) Children's Games, iv) Absence, v) The Father's Return

It' full title per Novello is Quodlibet on Welsh Nursery Tunes: Ballet Suite 'The Railway Children' and although the Quodlibet appears on lists of his works, the Railway Children part is generally missing! Wikipedia's detailed list gives the date of the Quodlibet as 1982, with a brass version in 1983.

Having now supplied opus numbers to my original list I thought that I might as well try to do this all properly and list those unrecorded works by date and/or opus number:

Right...that's the first half of the list ;D

Second part to follow soon ;D

Please don't take this as gospel ;D  It is only a fair attempt :)

The Chandos CD wth Symphony No 6 is a great place to start investigating his music - then the Lyrita CD with symphonies 2,3 etc.

Very much agree :D

The 6th is a superb work...in Hoddinott's most accessible idiom :)

Dundonnell

Well, it took a little longer than I planned...but the second half of the unrecorded (and unavailable from this site) Hoddinott orchestral list goes something like:

1982: Five Studies for orchestra, op.107/1
1982: Quodlibet on Welsh Nursery Tunes for orchestra(?)
Christmas Cantata "The Bells of Paradise" for baritone, chorus and orchestra, op.117
1985: Concerto for Piano Trio and Orchestra
1987: "The Legend of St. Julian" for narrator, chorus and orchestra, op.129
Lines from Marlowe's 'Doctor Faustus' for chorus, brass and percussion, op.131
Songs of Exile for tenor and orchestra, op.133
1989: Symphony No.8 for brass and percussion, op.142 (which Latvian will be uploading for us)
1990: Cantata "Hymns of Pantycelyn"
1992: Symphony No.9 "Vision of Eternity" for soprano and orchestra, op.145 (which shamokin88 has for us)
1993: Missa Sancti David, op.148
1999: Celebration Dances for orchestra, op.169
Concerto for percussion and brass band, op.175
"The Promontary of Dreams" for baritone, horn and strings, op.183
Concerto Grosso for brass band, op.187
"La Serenissima: Images of Venice" for soprano, baritone and orchestra, op.189
'Divisions'-Concertante for horn, harpsichord and strings
Theatre Overture
Scenes and Interludes for trumpet harpsichord and strings

As I said before, this is only a stab at such a list; there is absolutely no doubt that there are mistakes and/or omissions, for which I can only apologise in advance ;D

Christo

Great list, Colin, and one that really whets my appetite for more Hoddinott - I never realized there was so much ... :D

One small addendum: the Quodlibet on Welsh Nursery Tunes, written, as Alberto informs us, for orchestra in 1982 and arranged for brass quintet a little later, is included in a Nimbus cd in its brass quintet version.

On Nimbus 5466 with the Fine Arts Brass Ensemble it's coupled with two pieces by William Matthias (Summer Dances & Soundings) and two more compositions by Hoddinott: Chorales, Variants and Fanfares from 1992 + Ritornelli 2 Op. 100 No. 2 from 1979.

Later edit: Sorry, only at the moment of posting did I begin to realize that these performances won't qualify as `orchestral'. (The divergence started with the Quodlibet, which is an orchestral composition, but presented as a piece for brass instruments here.)
