Klughardt is one of those composers that succeeds in giving each of his symphonies a quite distinct identity. Moreover, there is a clear sense of development between them. The 5th/6th (depending on who's counting) in C minor is arguably the most individual of the set, but like most here (apparently) I prefer its predecessor for its combination of refinement and accessibility.

A new recording of the Lenore symphony would be welcome. The old Mussauer recording isn't that bad, but it shows its age in terms of sound quality and the playing is a bit scrappy here and there. But a premiere of the F minor is absolutely necessary.
