The symphony is interesting, dedicated to Paderewski, composed around 1898. Late romatic in style?

Gareth Vaughan

Yes, and a fine work IMHO. This recording is a must buy for me.

Very much late romantic in style, yes. A must-buy for me too.

A must buy here as well - I find his music fascinating.

Martin Eastick

A definite "must have" from me also! I wonder how this recording will compare with that which was once in our downloads section, conducted by Lukasz Borowicz, and which I thought was superb! I thought it perhaps rather surprising that a Borowicz recording has never been released, but I am really looking forward to this release - IMHO Stojowski's Symphony is first rate and probably should be considered an important milestone in late romantic Polish symphonic music.

...and better than Karlowicz's contemporary 'Rebirth' Symphony?

Ilja

On balance I have to say, yes, even though these are two works that sound very similarly - one wonders if Karlowicz got some inspiration from Stojowski's piece. They're both really well-crafted, but I feel that Stojowski's symphony holds together a bit better formally, and is more interesting in its use of rhythm. But there's really very little in it.

a surefire purchase from me, and I'm very glad it's from Wit, which I think is an excellent,  criminally underrated conductor..almost unsung.
